To Bring the Dawn: Recruiting the Core

Hi all its Neil here with the units for my first month of our Age of Sigmar group project, the Lord Regent to lead my force and a unit of 10 Vanari Wardens to form the core of my Lumineth.  Here are these completed units.

Xenos on Crusade: Neil the Devourer; Hive Fleet Lindworm Month 3

Hi all it's Neil here back with a new update for my Tyranids in our Xenos on Crusade series.  Hive Fleet Lindworm has been expanding with the addition of a Maleceptor and a Toxicrene.  Lindworm has also been pretty active on the socially distanced battlefield since the lockdown rules have eased enough for outdoor gaming to start up.  The Toxicrene and Maleceptor bring me up to having 50 (well 49) power painted and ready.

Path to Glory 2020 - Indaril's Hunters - Part 1

Indaril glided through the air with her zephyrspite catching thermals to keep her aloft, far below she tracked her prey who had dared to raid the glade.  She directed her hunters though the forest to stalk the prey ready to fall upon them when the opportunity presented itself.  As the prey entered a glade clearing, Indaril dove down her song turning belligerent ready to avenge the wrong done in blood.....

Hi all, for my starting Warband I decided to pick the Arch-Revenant as my hero who gives me 3 rolls to spend from the path to glory tables.  To theme my band I decided to go for a free spirit heavy start as the arch-revenant is a strong melee leader who works well with the Kurnoth Hunters so I spend my rolls on a unit of 3 Kurnoth Hunter with greatswords, a unit of 3 Kurnoth Hunters with scythes and a unit of 3 Kurnoth Hunters with great bows.

Path to Glory 2020: The Brass Rampagers II

"Blood for the Blood God!"

Today I have been looking at the units I will be taking in my initial warband. This is mainly guided by the models I currently have available*, rather than a burning desire to have a powerful list. The majority of the models I will be using come from the Blades of Khorne Start Collecting kit, the contents of which were in the original AoS starter.

To this end I decided against rolling randomly for my warleader's follower units...

A 2019 Retrospective - Tim's thoughts on 2019 and looking forward to 2020

2019

My blogging fizzled out a little in 2019, thanks in part to my iphone giving up the ghost and depriving me of a camera at exactly the time when I should have been writing up the last stages of my Primaris space marine army. However, I've nonetheless had a fun hobby journey this year, slowly building my AoS forces, converting chaos critters, and above all building my space marine army for 40k. Here is the mother of all catch up posts to show how!

Adeptus Astartes

My Dawnbringers chapter of the adeptus astartes are now a healthy size army in the region of 2500 points, with a whole demi company of primaris marines plus supporting caste of commanders and specialists!

A 2019 Retrospective - Neil's thoughts on 2019 and looking forward to 2020

Merry Christmas!

2019 has been a good year with a glut of new releases for many games that I both play and keep an eye on and its looking like 2020 will be the same.  2019 also saw this blog come into being back in January, which has provided me with somewhere to keep track of what I've been doing and to let anyone who is interested see what I've been working on.

Mustering For Vigilus: James' Adeptus Custodes - Wrap Up and What's Next?

And with this post, my watch has ended....

Our inaugural Tale of Four Warlords is now over, with all of us having finished up work our armies. Now it's time to enjoy the end results of some lovely painted miniatures and plan ahead for what to add next.
The Mustering for Vigilus has been a great little Tale( I say little, it lasted 6 months!) so I wanted to post up a summary of what I managed to paint, what I've enjoyed about the Custodes and where I plan on taking the army in the future!

Mustering for Vigilus: Neil's Ultramarines; Epilogue

Hi all, our Mustering for Vigilus group project has ended so I thought I would do a post to reflect on how it has gone, what I got painted and what my plans are now.

The Warhammer 40k project was done with the aim of getting all of use back into 40k a bit more and to build up forces to go to a doubles event so armies of around 750-1000 points.

Vigilus Defiant: The End of the Tale. The Adeptus Mechanicus Depart

Snow crunched under metallic heels and wiring tread as Servitors reaped their harvest from the field of Kaelec's Bane. Tech Priest Dominus Argentos Viir surveyed his bionic flock as they went about their daily labours.

The dead would serve again, he mused. The flesh was weak, but could be used for gruel. The machine was strong and could be re-purposed.

As the war for Vigilus had continued Viir had indulged in more and more of these human thoughts, particularly when he surveyed the reclamation servitors. Death, it seemed, was the fate of man and machine in the end...

Tournament Operations: Joint Ops; Wayland Games Warhammer 40,000 Monthly Doubles - 750pts per player - 13th July 2019

The Mustering for Vigilus project has come to an end so we are all going to Wayland Games for their Warhammer 40,000 Monthly Doubles event, and as the event is a doubles event we're going as two teams, Matt and myself being one team.

The format is 750 points per player, giving a combined 1500 points army per team, with no Lords of War being used for the event and the rule of 3 for datasheets and the maximum 2 detachments being per team rather than per player.  CP are also shared between the two players but the 3 CP for being battleforged is only applied once to the starting CP total.  The day will have 3 games being player with 1 Eternal War mission, 1 Maelstrom of War mission and 1 Open War mission so it gives what could be quite a hard spread of missions to actually get the lists working across but hopefully it will be a fun day playing games with nice people!

Mustering for Vigilus: James' Adeptus Custodes, End of Month 6

So then, here we are at the end of all things... or just the final month of another Tale of Four Warlords. It's been a good one and I've managed to finally get some paint onto my Custodes, something I'd always been meaning to do. I must admit as the Tale drew on I was finding myself lacking motivation. There's only so much gold a man can paint before it starts to lose it's lustre (pun totally intended). However now that I've managed to get some games in with the army, and somehow pick up wins, seeing those painted models on the table has given me a real drive to get the rest done. Well that and we all know that painted models are 100% guaranteed to roll better... and die first of course.

So what did I add to the collection of painted models this month?

Mustering for Vigilus: Neil's Ultramarines; End of Month 6

So the end of our 6th month of the Mustering for Vigilus series is here so its time more another update on how painting Ultramarines have gone.  This is in fact the end of the Mustering for Vigilus group project to get our collections to the point where we can all go to a doubles event at Wayland Games.

My aim this month was to paint a couple of characters in the form of the Primaris Apothecary and the Primaris Librarian as well as another 5 Primaris Intercessors to bring me to a nice round 30.

So lets see how that went.

Mustering for Vigilus: James' Adeptus Custodes, End of Month 5

Here we are at the end of month 5, with only one month of the Tale left to go the time seems to have flown by. For this month I decided to pull back on my pledges and just focus on one unit, with the goal being to really try to focus on getting at least one hours painting in a day. For me the important part this month wasn't to get loads done, but to really start building good hobby habits that I can move forward with to help my army painting.

Mustering for Vigilus - James' Adeptus Custodes, End of Month 4

So then April has been and gone and I've completely forgotten to do a hobby update. In all honesty it wasn't a good month for me and I've struggled to find a decent amount of time to really sit down and paint much at all. My pledge for April was to get through a Shield Captain, 3 Allarus Terminators and at a stretch the Achillus Dreadnought. In the end I only managed to get the Shield Captain and a single Allarus done. Rather than mope around on missed opportunity I thought I'd focus on ways I can get my painting mojo back and work out a schedule to keep me on track.

Mustering for Vigilus: Neil's Ultramarines; End of Month 4

April is over and another stage in our tale of four gamers Mustering for Viligus is over.  This month I'd planned to paint a single Ultramarine, but he is the primogenator of the Chapter and the Legion before it, the Primarch Roboute Guilliman and some members of the Adeptus Custodes to accompany the Imperial Regent, a trio of Allarus Terminators.

So this was my aim, how did I do with the painting?

Mustering for Vigilus: Tim's Primaris Space Marines, End of Month 3

Month 3 is over, and true to form I have not actually painted the things I said I would... or not fully, anyway.

Instead I have painted some other things - to be precise, 2 Redemptor Dreadnoughts!

Mustering for Vigilus: Neil's Ultramarines, End of Month 3

Hi all, March has been a very productive month for me painting wise with another 10 Intercessors, 5 Hellblasters, a Primaris Ancient, a Predator and a Redemptor rolling of my painting production line.  This now brings me to just short of 1500 points of painted Ultramarines that I've done since the start of 2019 and completes my first version of my doubles list so I can start gaming both on my own and with Matt to practice for solo and doubles events in the future.  Below I've got pictures of everything I've painted so far.

Mustering for Vigilus: Neil's Ultramarines, End of Month 2

February has been a very productive month painting wise for me, being able to get much more than just what I'd planned at the beginning of the month done.  So this month I managed to get 1 Primaris Captain, 2 Primaris Lieutenants, 10 Intercessors and 3 Aggressors painted. This greatly increases my Ultramarines force and give a good boost towards a 750 points doubles list so below are some pictures of the finished marines.

Mustering For Vigilus - James' Adeptus Custodes: End of Month 2

Hi guys,

Vigilus is in need so it's just as well our 2nd month is at an end and we can provide some much needed reinforcements. Or at least that's what I would be saying were it not for the fact I really haven't painted that much this month.

Painting Guide: Neil's Alarith Stoneguard
