Painting Guide: Neil's Alarith Stoneguard

Hi all Neil here with a guide on how I painted up my Alarith Stoneguard for my growing Lumineth army.  This is more of a post for myself to be able to find how I did them in future but if you want to find out the colours I used to do them then that's all below.

To Bring The Dawn: A Lord Regent's Companions

Hi all it's Neil here with another post about my Lumineth tale of five warlords force.  This post will be about both month two and three's unit as the month two unit got delayed considerably (I finished it with 3 days left in month 3).  These units are 5 Vanari Dawnriders who will be my Lord Regents compaions for my path to glory force and a Scinari Loreseeker, who in the background for my force is the brother of the Lord Regent.

For the Lion: Holding the Line

Hi all it's Neil here with a new post for my For The Lion series showing my latest unit of Intercessors and some pictures from my first game post codex supplement. These Intercessors help build up the core of my Dark Angels force. Intercessors form a good core able to shoot well, fight in melee and control objectives though they're not the best at any being generalists rather than specialists.

To Bring the Dawn: Recruiting the Core

Hi all its Neil here with the units for my first month of our Age of Sigmar group project, the Lord Regent to lead my force and a unit of 10 Vanari Wardens to form the core of my Lumineth.  Here are these completed units.

Casting Off: Initial Engagement

Hi all it's Neil here with a new Casting off post for Victory at Sea.  Its been a while since my last post mostly due to a lack of releases for my Royal Navy and a shift in what I've been painting and playing but I did recently-ish get my first actual game in with fellow warlord Tom.  I'm not going to go into super detail about, rather I'll give my takes on how I felt the game played.

To Bring the Dawn: Taking the Coin Malleus

Hi all it's Neil here with a post about a new group project that we've just started here at The Cambridge Warlords.   This new project is kick started by the release of the new 3rd edition for Age of Sigmar (and by the returning ability to game).  It's a tale of four gamers style project so each month we'll be painting up 1-2 boxes/units of miniatures to build up an army and playing games of increasing scope as we paint along together.

Painting Guide: Neil's Lumineth Realmlords; Vanari Warden

Hi all it's Neil here with a post that is going to link with an upcoming series.  I've decided to do a new Lumineth force for the imminent version 3 of Age of Sigmar and thought I'd document my painting steps mostly for myself but so that it's out there if anyone wants to copy (I'd be flattered if you did).  So here is the finished Vanari Warden to show the steps for this section of my Lumineth Realmlords force.

WW3: Team Yankee - Faction Focus: West German - Part 2: Support Units

Hi all it's Neil here with some more WW3 Team Yankee as there's been some NATO reinforcements with the release of the new West German book.  This is part 2 of my look at the new West German book where I'll be looking at the units that support your main combat units such as artillery, anti-air, tank destroyers and aircraft.  If you haven't seen part 1 going through the formations and their core units its probably worth checking it out first.  Hopefully this will be helpful to get to know the West German's support whether you're looking to use it or are going to be facing it down.

For The Lion: Armour Inbound

Hi all it's Neil here with a new post for my For The Lion series where I'm showing my Gladiator tank to you.  The Gladiator is one of the latest vehicle releases for the space marines and is basically the Predator version of the Impulsor with a turret weapon and two sponsons.  The addition to my Dark Angels give me more anti-tank or anti-infantry options depending on which variant I use.

WW3: Team Yankee - Faction Focus: West German - Part 1: Formations

Hi all it's Neil here with some more WW3 Team Yankee as there's been some NATO reinforcements with the release of the new West German book.  As in my previous factions focuses I'll start my looking at the formations in this post then part 2 will look at the units you can bring to support them.  I'm still a new player so I wouldn't be going into much in the way of competitiveness or list building in these but I am planning on doing some in the future after I get to play a bit more.  My hope is that these faction focuses will help new players like myself in picking a faction in the game to play as well as getting a bit of an overview of what you might be facing from the others too.  So lets get to it now and have a look at the West German formations.

Guardians of the Great Plan: Form the Battleline

Hi all its Neil here with another Guardians of the Great Plan post about my slowly expanding Seraphon project.  The latest addition to this force is my first battleline unit of Saurus Warriors armed with clubs and shields.  These are the first real unit for my Seraphon force but for their painting use all the colours from my first post in this series.

For the Lion: Interomancy Support

Hi all its Neil here with some more Dark Angels in my For the Lion series.  The latest editions to my Dark Angels force are a pair of Librarians to help interrogate those pesky Fallen once the Deathwing have captured them.  I've gone for a Terminator armour librarian and a Primaris one with Phobos armour giving me two quite different ways to use them on the table.

Casting Off: The Ark Royal

Hi all it's Neil here with a new Casting off post for Victory at Sea.  I recently got some reinforcements for my Royal Navy fleet in the form of Ark Royal escorted by a trio of Tribal class destroyers to give them a proper fleet carrier.

For the Lion: Shock and Awe

Hi all Neil here with a new For the Lion post about the Storm Speeder I've painted up this month.  Its quite a short post as I haven't done much beyond paint up the model for this project.  I've gone for making the Hammerstrike variant so I can add some more anti-tank firepower to my Ravenwing.  This new addition brings me closer to my planned 2000 point list for gaming again with 8.5 units out of 14 now fully painted.

Guardians of the Great Plan: Into the Beastgrave

Hi all Neil here with with a new Guardians of the Great Plan post showing how I painted up a unit of terradon riders and the Starblood Stalkers, the Seraphon warband for Warhammer Underworld.  These two had a few new types of features to paint so I've recorded what I did for the models so I don't forget if I come to paint more in future.  This Starblood Stalkers warband is my first foray into Warhammer Underworlds which will probably be the game I use to break back into gaming after the halt caused by Covid.

Casting Off: Matched Play Musings

Hi all Neil here with a new Casting Off post with some more of my musing about how to create a matched play style of play for Victory at Sea.  Everything in here will be my ideas and opinions and are currently untested due to the COVID pandemic but hopefully I'll get to test them at some point.  Creating a more matched play style means looking at list building, battleplans and scoring, which I will discuss in turn.  Each of these are vital to creating a balanced matched play environment and will probably look very different from the section in the rulebook about gaming.  Being a part of the community for the game I know that points are a controversial issue currently, pending a FAQ/Errata at the moment, but for this it kind of doesn't matter what the points are either a more sensible Warlord issued set or a community generated set so long as everyone playing a game (or event) are using the same one.

Deimos the Steel Forge: Part 3

Hi all its Neil here with some more Adeptus Mechanicus models for my Deimos force.  This time I've been painting up my first vehicle, a Skoripus Disintegrator.  This was a very different painting experience for my Ad Mech and a good lesson for me on using contrast on the large flat panels of a vehicle.  I was planning on sharing my idea for a list to aim for at 2000 points but with the new codex coming soon at the time of writing I'll be waiting till after that's released to do this instead.

Guardians of the Great Plan: First Spawned

Hi all its Neil here and today I've got a little post probably more for me about how I'm painting up my Seraphon for Age of Sigmar.  I've gone into quite a bit of detail with lots of pictures to show how each step is building up my final colours.  I've primarily used a Saurus Oldblood to show the steps then used a Skink Starpriest to show the extra parts and differences that are on the skinks compared to the saurus.  I'm hoping to build up a playable 1000 point list to start doing some gaming again after a long break from Age of Sigmar.  Part of the idea with the Seraphon is try to use contrast in a more controlled way trying to improve my usage from the Tyranids I've painted.  So here goes for my full steps:

For the Lion: New Codex Supplement and Painting

Hi all, it's Neil here with a new For the Lion post with some Deathwing reinforcements and following the new Codex Supplement Dark Angels release my ideas for a list to build towards.  This month I painted up a unit of 5 Deathwing Terminators and the Bladeguard Ancient.

Casting Off: Looking at the Full Rulebook

Hi all, its Neil here and I now have my full rulebook for Victory at Sea by Warlord Games so I thought I'd take a look at it.  My plan is to see how it compares to the quick start rulebook and whats new in it then look at from reading it how playing games looks by looking at the GW style game types of Narrative, Open and Matched play as these are my main games.  So its now time to get stuck in to the book!
