Deimos the Steel Forge: Part 3

Hi all its Neil here with some more Adeptus Mechanicus models for my Deimos force.  This time I've been painting up my first vehicle, a Skoripus Disintegrator.  This was a very different painting experience for my Ad Mech and a good lesson for me on using contrast on the large flat panels of a vehicle.  I was planning on sharing my idea for a list to aim for at 2000 points but with the new codex coming soon at the time of writing I'll be waiting till after that's released to do this instead.

Deimos the Steel Forge: Part 2

Hi all, it's Neil here with some more progress on my #NewYearNewArmy Adeptus Mechanicus project.  This month I'd added another 5 Skitarii Vanguard as well as Daedelosus, the techno-archaeologist from Blackstone Fortress Escalation who is supposed to be a great toolbox character (whom I happened to have in my house).  In addition to painting, I have been looking at some of the rules for the <Forgeworld> available from the codex and Engine War as I'll discuss what I've decided fits best with my idea of Deimos.

Deimos the Steel Forge: #NewYearNewArmy

Hi all it's Neil here and today I'll share the first unit I've painted up for my #NewYearNewArmy project which will be Adeptus Mechanicus.  The idea is to paint one box before getting the next one so that I don't create a new backlog in addition to those I already have.  My project will be to using a slightly different forge world that I haven't seen around, Forge World Deimos.

A 2019 Retrospective - Medge's 2019 progress, and plans for 2020

2019 is drawing to a close, and so it seems fitting to go through a period of hobby reflection, re-evaluation, and planning for the future.

2019 was an exceptional hobby year for me.

Just a couple of metrics;

30 blog posts (including this one)
2400 total blog hits for #Medge-tagged items; not bad for a bit of a personal pet project!

5 Army Projects (Death, Blood Angels, Grey Knights, Adeptus Mechanicus and Imperial Knights)

4 Game systems (Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40k, Necromunda and Warhammer: Underworlds)

128 models cleared from the back-log

and a heck of a load more added!!

So let's take a look at those in some detail.

Returning to Vigilus: Reinforcements for House Esmaral

Vigilus has come and gone in the Warhammer narrative, paving the way for the Psychic Awakening. Our Tale of Four Warlords for Vigilus finished many moons ago, and for several month my Adeptus Mechanicus and Imperial Knight forces have sat dormant, safe inside their Forge Complexes (also know as my hobby cabinets!) patiently awaiting their next excursion.

Whilst their next outing is still a few weeks off, some well needed reinforcements have arrived to bolster House Esmaral! Enter Lord Johan Virran and his squires; the big guns march to war!

Vigilus Defiant: The End of the Tale. The Adeptus Mechanicus Depart

Snow crunched under metallic heels and wiring tread as Servitors reaped their harvest from the field of Kaelec's Bane. Tech Priest Dominus Argentos Viir surveyed his bionic flock as they went about their daily labours.

The dead would serve again, he mused. The flesh was weak, but could be used for gruel. The machine was strong and could be re-purposed.

As the war for Vigilus had continued Viir had indulged in more and more of these human thoughts, particularly when he surveyed the reclamation servitors. Death, it seemed, was the fate of man and machine in the end...

Tournament Operations: Joint Ops; Wayland Games Warhammer 40,000 Monthly Doubles - 750pts per player - 13th July 2019

The Mustering for Vigilus project has come to an end so we are all going to Wayland Games for their Warhammer 40,000 Monthly Doubles event, and as the event is a doubles event we're going as two teams, Matt and myself being one team.

The format is 750 points per player, giving a combined 1500 points army per team, with no Lords of War being used for the event and the rule of 3 for datasheets and the maximum 2 detachments being per team rather than per player.  CP are also shared between the two players but the 3 CP for being battleforged is only applied once to the starting CP total.  The day will have 3 games being player with 1 Eternal War mission, 1 Maelstrom of War mission and 1 Open War mission so it gives what could be quite a hard spread of missions to actually get the lists working across but hopefully it will be a fun day playing games with nice people!

Mustering for Vigilus: Medge's Adeptus Mechanicus, End of Month 6.

Month 6 is over, and with it our Vigilus Tale draws to an end.

This was the final month to finish our collections off, a final dash to finish those last models and to complete our tournament lists ahead of the doubles event at Wayland Games later this month.

At the end of Month 5 I pledged to complete
1 more Syndonia Dragoon, 1 Tech Priest Dominus and 5 Skitarii Rangers to complete my tournament requirements, but also to round finish off all the assembled models I had left needing paint.

So how did I do?

Bash the Back-log #3; Medge's April - June

This year I've pledged to #BashtheBacklog - taking steps to correct that most grievous (but widespread) of hobby sins; the backlog of unpainted plastic!

Last update covered the end of Feb, March and the start of April. It's been 2 and a half months... so where am I now?

Mustering for Vigilus: Medge's Adeptus Mechanicus, End of Month 5

The penultimate month of our little Tale is over, and with it come the realisation that I've painted A LOT of Adeptus Mechanicus so far this year!! Next month I'll post up a full army pic to show off the last 6 months accomplishments, but for now I'll just stick to this months completed minis.

At the end of Month 4 I pledged to complete 1 Sydonian Dragoon as my core pledge, with a stretch goal of completing/ revitilising my Questoris Knight Styrix.

So how did I do?

Mustering for Vigilus: Medge's Adeptus Mechanicus, End of Month 4

The first four months of the year are behind us, and it's bloody terrifying! Where oh where does the time go! Best to not dwell on all the things I haven't done, and focus on all the things I have - namely paint loads of models!
Vigilus' stands defiant... just about! Abaddon and the Black Legion gave it their best (worst???) but still the Imperium hangs on - defiant till the last!

This month saw me add a few more mechanical warriors of the Adeptus Mechanicus to the Imperial defenders still standing.

Up first, a second Onagar Dunecrawler to accompany the first one I painted in Month 1

Mustering for Vigilus: Medge's Adeptus Mechanicus, End of Month 3

March is over, and with it the next stage of our Vigilus Tale comes to a close. It's been a great month for fans of the Vigilus campaign with the awesome new Campaign book, Vigilus Ablaze, landing. Not only that but The Warmaster himself has finally come, and his arrival has heralded the launch of a beautiful new Chaos range!

As a former follower of the Dark Gods it brings me great pleasure to see so many amazing new miniatures grace the range. I, however, repented my sins and am now a model Martian citizen (read as lobotomised mini-painting servitor), and as such have resisted the call of Chaos to focus on my Adeptus Mechanicus.

At the end of last month I pledged to complete the Secutarii Hoplites, with the goal of stretching that to complete my Sicarian Infiltrators.

So how did I do?

Mustering for Vigilus: Medge's Adeptus Mechanicus, End of Month 2

The war was not going well...
Tech Priest Dominos Viir was everywhere and nowhere, his consciousness spread thin across the noospheric web surrounding the hidden Mechanicum facility on Kaelec's Bane. By his calculation it had been 75.8624 solar cycles since the enemy <Designation: Worldclaimer, Haarken> had proclaimed the coming of the Arch-Heretic <Designation: Abaddon, Colloquial: "The Despoiler"> to Vigilus. In that time he had received input telemetry from 62,128 individual Skitarii from across Kealec Bane; the constant stream of information his shield against the hordes of the enemy <Designation: Black Legion>

Mustering for Vigilus: Medge's Adeptus Mechanicus, End of Month 1

January comes to an end, and with it the first month of our Tale.

For those that didn't read my Intro post, we're pledging small elements at each step to stop ourselves from getting too carried away.

I, as you will soon learn is in my character, got carried away!

How to Paint with Medge: Forge World Pitar Tertius Skitarii

Let's be perfectly clear... I'm not a good painter; I'm distinctly average (maybe above average if I push myself, but I'm far from competition worthy!)

So when you read this Blog title as "How to Paint" remember that it doesn't say "How to paint well"!!

The purpose of this series is for me to document exactly how I've gone about painting up models/ units in my collection so that when I come back to them I don't do something totally different.

Mustering for Vigilus - Medge's Adeptus Mechanicus Introduction

New Year, New Army...

That's a phrase that gets thrown round a lot this time of year, especially when commencing a new Campaign/ Tale of Four Gamers.

And I'd be lying if I said I've never said it...

In fact, last year during our Age of Sigmar Tale I started not one, but two brand new armies to complete my Destruction army (both Beastclaw Raiders and Ironjaws).

But NOT this year! This year I'm committing to being sensible (new years resolution I'm sure won't make it past March!) and as part of that I'll be revisiting a small project I started nearly two years ago - Adeptus Mechanicus.

Painting Guide: Neil's Alarith Stoneguard

Hi all Neil here with a guide on how I painted up my Alarith Stoneguard for my growing Lumineth army.  This is more of a post for myself to...
