WW3: Team Yankee - Faction Focus: West German - Part 2: Support Units

Hi all it's Neil here with some more WW3 Team Yankee as there's been some NATO reinforcements with the release of the new West German book.  This is part 2 of my look at the new West German book where I'll be looking at the units that support your main combat units such as artillery, anti-air, tank destroyers and aircraft.  If you haven't seen part 1 going through the formations and their core units its probably worth checking it out first.  Hopefully this will be helpful to get to know the West German's support whether you're looking to use it or are going to be facing it down.

WW3: Team Yankee - Faction Focus: West German - Part 1: Formations

Hi all it's Neil here with some more WW3 Team Yankee as there's been some NATO reinforcements with the release of the new West German book.  As in my previous factions focuses I'll start my looking at the formations in this post then part 2 will look at the units you can bring to support them.  I'm still a new player so I wouldn't be going into much in the way of competitiveness or list building in these but I am planning on doing some in the future after I get to play a bit more.  My hope is that these faction focuses will help new players like myself in picking a faction in the game to play as well as getting a bit of an overview of what you might be facing from the others too.  So lets get to it now and have a look at the West German formations.

WW3: Team Yankee - Faction Focus: Soviet - Part 2: Support Units

Hi all it's Neil here back after a bit of break for more WW3: Team Yankee with a look at the new Soviet book.  This post is part 2 of the look at the new Soviet book where I'll look at the supporting units such as artillery, AA, recon and aircraft.  If you're wanting to check out the formations and their main combat units there all in part 1.  If you're new to Team Yankee I've done a quick look at the rules and background here if you want to check it out.

WW3: Team Yankee - Faction Focus: Soviet - Part 1: Formations

Hi all it's Neil here back after a bit of break for more WW3: Team Yankee with a look at the new Soviet book.  This post will be part 1 where I will take a look at the formations and their main combat units, while in part 2 I will look at the support units such as AA, artillery and aircraft.  I'm still a fairly new player so I wouldn't be looking at competitiveness for tournament play rather my impressions of the book and units as a newer player.  I hope this might be useful for those who are also new-ish to the game and maybe a nice read if you're a veteran to see a new players point of view.  If you are a new player I have looked at the rules in general over here.  In this post I will look at the formations and their core units while Part 2 will be to look at the supporting units such as artillery, AA vehicles, recon and aircraft.

WW3 - 27th (Neil's Own) Lancers - Reconnaissance

Hi all it's Neil here back for some more of my 27th (Neil's Own) Lancers for WW3 Team Yankee.  This post is showing my latest additions to this force, a pair of reconnaissance units.  These are a unit of 4 Scorpions and a unit of 4 Scimitars, to work towards my planned list from the previous post.

WW3: Team Yankee - Faction Focus: US - Part 2: Support Units

Hi all it's Neil here and welcome back to my WW3 Team Yankee Series.  This is Part 2 of my look at the new US book.  In this post I'm going to look at the support units available to US players, this is both Divisional Support Choices as well as supporting options in formations (i.e non compulsory/"black box" units basically).  If you're wanting to see the formations the check out Part 1 here.

These Support units can be divided up into these categories; anti-tank missile launchers, artillery, AA and aircraft .  There is a single unit which I wouldn't talk about here which is only available as a support unit, the M551 Sheridan tank.  This is because as it was the only tank that's not a black box unit I decided to take a look in Part 1 with the other tanks.

Breaking the Iron Curtain; Part 3. American Starter Force Unboxing and Book First Impressions

Welcome back to "Breaking the Iron Curtain" - a beginners perspective series for World War III "Team Yankee" by Battlefront Games

So far as part of this series I've put together a small force for the United States of America, building and painting the old US starter sets "Bannon's Boys" and "Ryan's Leathernecks", and taking my first steps into learning the rules.

It's been a great month to be a budding US player with so many amazing new and updated plastic kits launched, a new Starter Set and a new faction book packed with exciting rules!

Try as I might, I couldn't resist the pull of the new Starter Box; there's so much value in that box and the models really complement what I already had. I also needed to pick up the newest book as I've got my first game coming soon, and wanted to make sure I could actually run the right formations!

For this months update I thought I'd do an unboxing post for the new US starter, talk through the decisions I made when building up the models, and then mention some of the cool new additions in the 2nd Edition US Faction Book.

Let's get into it!

WW3: Team Yankee - Faction Focus: US - Part 1: Formations

Hi all it's Neil here and welcome back to my WW3: Team Yankee series.  This is going to be Part 1 of my look at the new US book.  In this post I will look at the various formations available to US players.  This isn't going to be a deep look into competitiveness of the various options rather it will be a newer player's look at the options.  If you are also a newer player to WW3 Team Yankee I would suggest to read this Introduction post first.  This is going to be quite a long post due how much is in the new book so I hope you feel like sticking with it and get to the end.

WW3 - 27th (Neil's Own) Lancers - List building and Infantry

Hi all, it's Neil here back for some more WW3 27th (Neil's Own) Lancers.  Some of you may notice the new title for these hobby posts which is to keep it separate from my other Team Yankee content where I take a look at the background and different forces in the game.  Today I will be showing you some infantry that I've painted up to support my Chieftains as well as sharing my first 100 point list idea for bring them to the table soon.

WW3: Team Yankee - Faction Focus: British - Part 2: Support Units

Hi all, its Neil here and welcome back to my WW3 Team Yankee series.  Today I'm going to continue my look at the British forces in Team Yankee by looking at the Support units.  If you want to take a look at the formations that the British get, check out Part 1.

By Support, I mean both the units in the force diagram labelled as Divisional Support Options and units in the the formations that weren't the main focus.  These can be divided in 4 categories; anti-tank guided missile launchers, artillery, anti aircraft and aircraft.

WW3: Team Yankee - Faction Focus: British - Part 1: Formations

Hi all, its Neil here and welcome back to my WW3 Team Yankee series.  Today I thought I'd give my view on the British in the game from their book.  I'm starting with the British as they're the force I've chosen for Team Yankee.  The British have just got an updated book for v2 which added new equipment like the Challenger 1 and Warrior.

This isn't going to be a super detailed look at building competitive lists rather I'm going to share my thoughts as a newer player on the book.  I will come back for another look once I've gotten experience playing the game to see how my view changes.  If you are unfamiliar with the game I'd suggest reading my introduction post first (don't worry I'll wait 😉 ).  This will be the first post of two, looking at the formations first then at the support choices in the second part.

WW3 - 27th (Neil's Own) Lancers - Chieftains

Hello again, I'm Neil and it's time for 15 mm tanks in WW3 again.  In an earlier post I'd painted some Chieftain tanks for my Team Yankee force and now I've come back to Chieftains to bolster my minimal formation with another 3 for now (I ran out of Deathworld Forest Air paint for the last two I currently have so they'll be coming soon-ish).

The Chieftain is still the main tank of the British Army in Germany even though its an older tank at the time of setting of the game but with its powerful gun and thick armor it is still able to deal with even the best that the Pact can field.  The Chieftain can be further upgraded with the stillbrew armor package further increasing its armor on the front but reducing its ability to successfully navigate rough terrain.

Here are my three newly completed Chieftain tanks;

WW3: Team Yankee - An Introduction - Setting and Rules

Hi all, its Neil here and welcome back to my WW3 Team Yankee series.  Today I though that I'd share a bit about the game itself for those who are unfamiliar with it as it is not so widely known, particularly compared to something like 40k.  The WW3 Team Yankee game is created by Battlefront who do both the rulebooks and miniatures for it.  To give a bit of context to other WW3 posts here are some  basics for both the background and playing the game from a newer player of the game.

WW3 - 27th (Neil's Own) Lancers - Lynx Helicopters

Hi all, its Neil here and welcome back to my WW3 Team Yankee series.  It's been quite a while since my last post for WW3; so long in fact that there has been a whole new edition of WW3 Team Yankee.  Last time I showed the 5 chieftain tanks that I'd painted which gave me the bare minimum for a chieftain company in game.  This time I've painted up some air support for these tanks in the form of a pair of Lynx TOW helicopters. These hunter killer helos mount two TOW guided missile launchers on their flanks and are great at taking out even the heaviest Soviet Soviet armour.

For the colours I've used this image from the internet as my inspiration.

WW3 - 27th (Neil's Own) Lancers - Hail to the Chief-tain

Hi all, I have now completed the painting of my five Chieftain tanks, which are divided into a Company HQ unit consisting of a single Chieftain and two Squads of two Chieftains in game to form a minimum sized Chieftain Armoured Company formation.

I have tried to go for a historical style paint scheme but there are some bits that may be non historical colours or styles for game play reasons.

WW3 - 27th (Neil's Own) Lancers - Neil's British Forces For Team Yankee

I like tanks (and I mean why wouldn't you), they're cool and interesting vehicles.  To scratch my tank itch, I've decided to pick up my Team Yankee British forces from Battlefront which have been sitting in a box for while as a side project. Team Yankee is a game that I haven't played but its set in an interesting alternative timeline where the Cold War turns into a shooting war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact in Europe.

Painting Guide: Neil's Alarith Stoneguard

Hi all Neil here with a guide on how I painted up my Alarith Stoneguard for my growing Lumineth army.  This is more of a post for myself to...
