Mustering For Vigilus - James' Adeptus Custodes: End of Month 2
Hi guys,
Vigilus is in need so it's just as well our 2nd month is at an end and we can provide some much needed reinforcements. Or at least that's what I would be saying were it not for the fact I really haven't painted that much this month.
February has been a slow month for me and at the end I've only managed to paint another 3 Custodian Guard. Whilst small it still brings my points total up to 500 which I'm happy with and hey I don't think the Imperial forces on Vigilus will complain about having even more of The Ten Thousand fighting for them. Whilst it's not the biggest of accomplishments I am glad to have another 3 troops done, meaning I only need another 3 to get a battalion well on the way to being completed which means I can get the Golden Boys onto the table sooner.
So then that's my very small Month 2 completed and with Shadowspear being previewed it can mean only one thing, Vigilus Part 2 isn't far off.
So what am I planning for Month 3?
The plan for our armies is to attend a doubles tournament in June, giving us a nice target to work towards. However playing Custodes presents me with one massive issue; A very limited amount of points to work with. Unsurprisingly Custodes are an extremely point heavy army, and with a 750 point limit on the armies I'll struggle to fit anything actually threatening into it (I'll ultimately end up being a giant golden ball and chain to drag poor Tim and his Dawnbringers down). So with that in mind I activated the old almonds and tried to work out a new Imperial force to bring to the games that'll still tie into my Custodes. And then the latest White Dwarf arrived to answer all my problems.
The assassins have always been something I've loved the idea of. Specialists beyond compare, they are in some ways equivalent to the Custodes. A force that the Imperium only unleashes against a truly deserving target, I've always wanted to add some to my army. And with Trajann assuming his seat as a High Lord of Terra it seems like a perfect set up for him to requisition some additional help for Vigilus. But the assassins aren't enough to make an army out of, so they'll need some help. Which is why I'm deciding to pair them with some of the lovely storm troopers of the Militarum Tempestus. I've owned these guys for a while, picking up a few boxes when the Tempestus Codex dropped way back in 2014. I've used them a few times as a dreaded Guard detachment in my armies but now I've got the perfect opportunity to paint them all up and field a specialist Kill Team dispatched to Vigilus to help deal with the resurgent traitor forces.
So for month 3 my goal is to paint up 1 Callidus, Culexus and Vindicare Assassin to add a lovely detachment to my Imperial forces or threaten a surprise assassin in any force with spare points. As well I'm aiming to paint up the start of my Tempestus Kill Team with 10 Tempestus Scions and a Tempestor Prime. This'll give me a great start to then finish off the force in April, giving me a good opportunity to then go back to the Custodes before the end of the Tale and finish off some more of those lovely models.
Until next time,
James
