Tournament Operations: Joint Ops; Wayland Games Warhammer 40,000 Monthly Doubles - 750pts per player - 13th July 2019

The Mustering for Vigilus project has come to an end so we are all going to Wayland Games for their Warhammer 40,000 Monthly Doubles event, and as the event is a doubles event we're going as two teams, Matt and myself being one team.

The format is 750 points per player, giving a combined 1500 points army per team, with no Lords of War being used for the event and the rule of 3 for datasheets and the maximum 2 detachments being per team rather than per player.  CP are also shared between the two players but the 3 CP for being battleforged is only applied once to the starting CP total.  The day will have 3 games being player with 1 Eternal War mission, 1 Maelstrom of War mission and 1 Open War mission so it gives what could be quite a hard spread of missions to actually get the lists working across but hopefully it will be a fun day playing games with nice people!

My 750 points for this consists of:

- Marneus Calgar in Armour of Heraclus
    Warlord (Adept of the Codex)
- Lieutenant in Phobos Armour
    Relic: The Armour Indomitus
- 6 Intercessors
Bolt rifles, Auxiliary grenade launcher, Chainsword
- 5 Intercessors
Bolt rifles, Auxiliary grenade launcher, Chainsword
- 5 Intercessors
Bolt rifles, Auxiliary grenade launcher, Chainsword
- 3 Inceptors
    Plasma Exterminators
735pts, 7 CP

This gives me a nice block of solid Intercessors for taking objective as well as having a good amount of anti-infantry firepower to go around with Calgar to use that re-roll all failed hits aura while the Inceptor and Lieutenant can set up in reserves to drop down where they are needed turn 2 to hopefully win the battle in our favour.

Thats my list, I'll let Matt take you through his.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey all - Medge here.

My list went through a few "trial and error" stages over the months as I tried a few units and got stuff working, and in the end I settle for what I'm taking as a reasonable compromise at 750 points.

I'll be taking:

Batallion Detachment:

HQ: Tech Priest Dominus with Macrostubber and Volkite Blaster
HQ: Tech Priest Enginseer

Troops: 3x Kataphrone Destroyers with Plasma Culverin and Phorphor Blasters
Troops: 10 Skitarii Vanguard with Skitarii Alpha and 2 Arc Rifles
Troops: 10 Skitarii Rangers with Skitarii Alpha

Fast Attack: 3x Sydonian Dragoons with Taser Lance

Heavy Support: 1x Onagar Dunercrawler with Icarus Array

I'm hoping the Dunecrawler, HQs and Kataphrones will provide a solid gunline for the army, with the Rangers and Vanguard offering some bodies for objective holding. The Dragoons are viscous killers and should offer some serious forward and flanking threat!

Hopefully my plans survive contact with the enemy!

Back to you Neil.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cheers Matt, so that's both of our lists and now we will just have to wait for the weekend to see how it does at the event.  Check back after the weekend for a update for how well we did as a team.

Update:
Unfortunately the event we went to had to be called off as our two pairs were the only people who turned up for it which was shame, but hopefully we will be able to find another doubles event at some point and I know that I am hoping to go to more singles events in the future too (just got some new models to get painted first) -- Neil

  1. Good luck lads! Medge, I wouldn't go into battle without a Neutron Laser personally, but I hope the icarus array pays off for you.

    1. I've always found the Icarus a bit more reliable through volume of shots, especially with the +2 to hit Stratagem - the Neutron laser is good but seems a little lacklustre when running solo. Maybe a need a third Dunecrawler!?

The tournament also has a "no super heavy" rule too, so the Dragoons should be able to punch holes in most tanks as required
