For The Lion: Summon The Deathwing

Hi all, the Ravenwing have been deployed and located the fallen so it's now time to summon the Deathwing to complete the job.  I have been painting 5 Deathwing knights since the black knights were completed and now have finished these finest of warriors.

These knights have a huge amount of detail in their armor which slowed down their completion a bit (and might have caused a bit of hobby burnout) but they are now finished ready to grace the tabletop when the army is complete.

To paint these I used the following classic colour sets from the Citadel Colour app;
  • Bone for the armour
  • Scarlet for the robes and red details
  • Dark Angels Armour for the shields and Watcher
  • Grimy White for the iconography
  • Burgundy for the weapon grips
  • Black for the black (kind of obvious for that)
  • Gunmetal for the silver areas
  • Clean Gold for the gold details
  • Polished Bone for the bone trinkets
  • Simple Yellow for the yellow brocade
  • Pallid Skin for the faces
  • Infernal Red for the purity seal wax
  • Parchment for the purity seal parchment
This large amount of colours is partially the reason why they took so long (and sapped my hobby mojo) to paint but the end result is definitely worth the effort!

In game Deathwing Knights are excellent assault units with each knight wielding what is nearly a thunder hammer (its identical except for its AP is one worse) and the
Knight master wielding a flail that assigns damage like in AoS allowing it's to more easily take on hordes of enemies trying to bog them down.

Next up for the dark angels is hard to decide, I do have another 3 black knights ready to paint but with 9th edition and the new primaris outriders coming they're also a strong choice as is the hopefully imminent primarch himself from forgeworld.   So if you want to get a sneak peak at what I'll be doing next for the Dark Angels chapter or legion, check out my Instagram! See you soon for some more of the 1st!
